The Simple Comforts Of Resident Evil 4

The Simple Comforts Of Resident Evil 4

There are two things I find myself doing when my mental health gets to its worst place. The first thing is getting really angry. It is an effort in futility because I'm mostly mad at a nebulous concept. In February 2019, I checked myself into a rehab clinic to finally combat my addiction to alcohol. So many years later, what makes me mad is this wasn't the magic eraser I secretly hoped it would be. Everything that happened before I got sober still happened; all the personal failings are just as real now as they were then, no matter how much I think I've changed. Admittedly, it's unfair to be mad about this – but I still am! I find myself thinking, "If I'm only going to feel worse, then what was the point of getting sober?"

The second thing I do – almost like clockwork – is turn to Resident Evil 4. Something about that game comforts me. I love the game, but it's only when things feel apocalyptic in my brain that I obsessively consume it. It's a bizarre way to clock my mental health – when things are good, I go about my life as usual, and when things are bad, my life revolves around Resident Evil 4.

Annapurna's Last Stop: Zen And The Art Of A Philosophically-Driven Video Game

Annapurna's Last Stop: Zen And The Art Of A Philosophically-Driven Video Game

Last Stop is the latest game published by Annapurna Interactive, developed by Variable State. Variable State is no stranger to creating meaningful gaming experiences as seen with 2016's Virginia, so when I dove into Last Stop, I couldn't wait to see what else this studio had in store. As a massive Albert Camus fan, I was not disappointed by the intricate existential philosophy interwoven into the Last Stop storyline

After our Last Stop review went live, I had a few readers reach out to me asking who Albert Camus even was. He was a French philosopher, journalist, and author of some of my favorite humanistic books like The Stranger, The Myth of Sisyphus, and The Fall. His belief is that humans need to embrace the absurdity of our very existence, which blends the philosophies of existentialism and nihilism in the face of chaos. Last Stop's story reflects that blend that the Absurdism philosophy centers on with the story offering a dualistic experience that pits the mundanity of daily life against the absurdity of a supernaturally driven fate.

The Top 10 PlayStation 5 Games

The Top 10 PlayStation 5 Games

"What games should I get for my PlayStation 5?" This is the question we've been asked the most since Sony's new generation of gaming arrived last November. People want to see what games are the best showpieces of PlayStation 5's power, and also which ones take their beloved medium to new heights. Although the PlayStation 5 is still in its infancy, it has already amassed a nice library of games, including a few titles that you can't play anywhere else.

The Game Informer staff has selected 10 games that we consider to be the PlayStation 5's absolute best. Over time, this article will be updated with the latest releases that we think crack the top 10.

Please note that while the list below contains 10 entries, we aren’t ranking them. If a game has made it this far (and managed to stay here), it’s a must-play, period. As such, we’ll be listing entries in reverse chronological order. Also, with future updates, you’ll find a rundown of previous entries at the bottom of the list. While those titles have gotten bumped over time, they are still all great games in their own right and worth exploring if you’re already caught up on the latest hits.

New World Beta - Game Informer Live

New World goes is in beta, with the actual launch not too far away. Actual release is scheduled for August 31, but we’re going in to explore the beta right now! Amazon Games’ MMORPG has been under development for ages and gone through multiple iterations - how do things look right now with a month to go before release? Let’s take a look! We explored some late-game expedition (dungeon) and PVP content a little bit ago, and now we’re going in fresh for a new look at all things New World!

Big mauls. Magic spells. Crafting. Dungeon dives and player-vs-player faction battles. MMORPG players are always voracious for new offerings within the space, so the question is simple. Will New World satiate that hunger? What faction will we join? Will we be eaten by bears? What’s the world like? Come join Dan Tack for answers to these important questions on an all-new episode of Game Informer Live today at 2 PM CST. We’ll be talking all things MMORPGs and attempting to navigate our way through these bold new lands.

Should You Play New World? Beta Impressions From The Frontier

Amazon Games’ upcoming MMORPG New World is in the spotlight as a lengthy closed beta session shows off the action ahead of an August 31st release. New World has changed its vision multiple times over the course of development, and now the question on everyone’s mind is – where is this going to land on release? What kind of player is it for? What kind of MMORPG is it? And perhaps the most important question, is it worth your time at all? Over the course of the beta (and a demo session that took me into an endgame slice with a fully-geared character), I’ve seen some areas with huge potential that are currently underserved in the MMORPG space – and some others that could be intense detriments for the title. Let’s talk about New World!

This Wholesome Skyrim Mod Offers A Spell That Lets You Get Your Hug On

Skyrim is easily one of the most heavily modded games out there, more so since Bethesda started supplying console mod support. Some of these fan creations are complete retellings and new adventures, while others — like this Skyrim mod — are more about the simple things in life.

The Self Hug Spell Mod from Nexus Mods user The Seagull (uploaded by DevicsPrey) is bringing a little wholesomeness to the world of Tamriel. "We all need a hug from time to time, but not all of us have someone around to provide such luxury," said the mod's creator when explaining how this came to be in the first place. "Use your mighty magics to emulate the sensation of being hugged and improve your mood drastically."

According to the mod's creator, it's a simple spell that was added for brevity, and you know what? Sometimes, simple is good. Simple is just what we need. The world would be a better place if we had a little more empathy and a little more compassion towards one another. Apparently, that applies to our toon selves in-game, as well.

Smash Hits: Franchises Deserving Of The Smash Bros. Treatment

The announcement of Nickelodeon's All Star Brawl had the gaming world buzzing last week. This isn’t the first time the Gak pack has gotten together for a beat ‘em up, but something about additions like Powdered Toast Man and Nigel Thornberry has got people excited to battle with their favorite Nickelodeon characters. Where else can this Smash Bros. formula be applicable? There would have to be a big and enticing enough cast to bring together for fun throwdown with friends. Here are the universes I think are capable of handling the Smash Bros. treatment.
