Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, finally arrives for iOS in October

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is finally headed to iOS. Fans can experience the free-to-play game on mobile devices starting Oct. 29. Most importantly, all progress — including card collections — will carry over from the PC version of the game.

Gwent began life as a minigame in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, featuring collectible cards scattered all throughout the game world. Then, at E3 2016, CD Projekt Red revealed it would be turned into a standalone product. The card-based combat also served as the inspiration for a standalone title called Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, an isometric role-playing game which uses Gwent to fuel its combat and non-combat encounters.

Epic is going gothic this week, offering the H.P. Lovecraft-inspired Conarium for free on the Epic Games Store through Sept. 19. It replaces last week’s free games, The End is Nigh and Abzu.

Indie puzzle-adventure game Conarium is based on Lovecraft’s novella At the Mountains of Madness, which follows a group of scientists on an Antarctic expedition to unearth ruins of an ancient, alien civilization known as the “Elder Things.” The game follows an amnesiac protagonist, Frank Gilman, who wakes up in an ominously deserted Antarctic base and must piece together what happened to him and his crew.

Nintendo Switch’s new ring controller game is Ring Fit Adventure

Nintendo’s unusual, semi-flexible ring controller now has a name and a game. It’s Ring-Con and Ring Fit Adventure for Nintendo Switch, respectively. It’s the console maker’s latest stab at exergaming, which harkens back to its tremendous success with it on the Wii in the mid-aughts.

According to a news release put out this morning, Ring-Con combines with a leg strap to deliver exercise challenges in Ring Fit Adventure, where players are trying to defeat a “bodybuilding dragon” (Nintendo’s words, not ours). “Jog, sprint and do knee-highs in real life to travel through the world,” the statement says, “and use the Ring-Con accessory to perform different in-game actions, like jumping, hovering in mid-air or steering a raft on a river.”

Hideo Kojima unveils an hour of raw Death Stranding gameplay — yep, it’s still weird

There is so much of Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding that we still don’t understand, so much about the systems and the mission that we’re still trying to grasp. But after Hideo Kojima’s hour-long Death Stranding presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2019 — Kojima showed off 50 minutes of raw gameplay — we know a little more about Sam Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, and his life. Particularly, the dude likes to indulge in a little bit of self-care. Don’t we all?

Around 15 minutes into a delivery journey — where Bridges ran, jumped, and climbed with a massive load of cargo and a baby — Reedus’ character paused for a rest, sitting on a hill overlooking a river below. He strapped off his shoes to reveal his bloodied feet and stretch his legs. Death Stranding apparently “encourages moments of tranquility and recuperation,” according to a post on the PlayStation blog. While resting, Bridges has options to sleep or massage his shoulders, but he can also pull out a harmonica to play a tune for the baby, who appears to like it a lot, cooing and dancing in the delivery pod. A later scene shows Bridges taking a bath in some murky orange water to recharge with the baby, who, again, also appears to be enjoying their self.

New Resident Evil multiplayer game is a survival horror escape room

Capcom unveiled a first look at Project Resistance, the Resident Evil spinoff it teased earlier this week, at Tokyo Game Show today. The publisher describes Project Resistance as “a new type of survival horror” that features asymmetrical multiplayer for five players.

Four of those players will assume the role of survivors who must cooperate to endure a deadly experiment. Each survivor comes equipped with his or her own special skills, and players will need to coordinate to solve puzzles and stay alive.
