Top StarCraft 2 champion indicted in second match-fixing probe

Ten-time champion accused of taking $60,000 to throw two games

South Korean authorities have indicted 10 persons, including two top StarCraft 2 players, at the end of a second investigation into esports match-fixing in that country.

The report, as translated by Team Liquid, alleges Lee "Life" Seung Hyun (pictured) received 70,000,000 South Korean won (roughly $60,000) to intentionally lose two matches in May 2015, and Bung "Bbyong" Woo Yong, 23, was paid the equivalent of $26,000 to throw one in January of this year. Another former StarCraft pro, Sun "Enough" Jun Mo, 34, was accused of being Life's benefactor, and also of profiting from bets on the fixed match.

A girl, a puppy and a lot of zombies

This is about a girl and her puppy and zombies, lots and lots of zombies.

In Dead Years you play the role of an amnesiac young woman who finds herself dropped into the middle of a broken world with her pet dog.

"The game starts with a girl landing in a parachute in this crazy empty world," said Natalie Petkova, art director at developer Zero Byte. "She loses some of her memory."

Watch the first 20 minutes of the Pyre demo from Supergiant Games

Pyre is a strange, beautiful, magical creation. No surprise when you discover it's the latest title from Supergiant Games, creators of Bastion and Transistor.

wrote up how the game works and some of my thoughts earlier this week, but this is one of those cases where seeing the demo, or at least most of it, might help you see how all of these ideas come together.

When I swung by the booth yesterday at PAX East to grab this video, Supergiant Games creative director Greg Kasavin told me that things were going well and that the crowds, which at times look like they're going to completely envelope the show's booths, were enjoying what they were playing.

League's rules bans sponsors tied to porn, only Team YP is affected

The esports team sponsored by the adult entertainment portal YouPorn is being forced out of the Electronic Sports League over its ties to a pornography website, reports VentureBeat.

Team YP is getting the gate from the ESL thanks to a rule prohibiting sponsorships by those "widely known for pornographic ... or other adult/mature themes and products." That is according to an email sent to Team YP by the ESL and obtained by VentureBeat.

Tekken X Street Fighter officially on hold, says Namco

Tekken director cites other fighting games launching this year

Tekken X Street Fighter, Bandai Namco's long overdue reciprocation of 2012's Street Fighter X Tekken, is not in active development, the series' longtime director tells GameSpot.

Katsuhiro Harada said that launching a crossover now could fragment both the Tekken and Street Fighter communities, in light of this year's Street Fighter 5 launch and Tekken 7: Fated Retribution coming to PlayStation 4 sometime this year.

Teaser site reveals plans for the next chapter

A new spinoff of Five Nights at Freddy's is coming, subtitled Sister Location, per a teaser that went up on developer Scott Cawthon's website today.

No other details are known. The teaser site's background features what appears to be the face of a new character. "Sister Location" also seems to refer to a fictitious restaurant associated with the "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza" eatery, which served as the series' original setting and namesake.

Marvel's Inhumans movie taken off schedule, premiere now TBD

A crowded lineup moves the flick off its July 2019 premiere

Inhumans, set for a July 12, 2019 premiere, has now been taken off Disney's schedule altogether, confirming what fans had heard about two weeks ago.

Deadline reported the un-scheduling, but noted that this is not a cancellation; Marvel just has to figure out when it wants to premiere the movie. It appears to have been shuffled out of the Disney deck by the Indiana Jones film that was announced back in March for a July 19, 2019 premiere.

Swords, guns and a bunny-headed cornerman designed by Afro Samurai's creator

Furi is all boss fight, no fluff, but one bunny-headed, advice-giving cornerman.

Emeric Thoa says he designed the game around the feeling of boxing: the tension of walking into your next fight, your cornerman giving you advice as you prepare to face off against your equal, or your better.

"It's a boss fight like a duel rather than a boss fight that you're used to," said Thao, CEO and creative director of developer The Game Bakers.

PAX East 2016: All the news, games and panels

The east coast edition of Penny Arcade Expo is underway, and Polygon is there to round up games from the show floor and news from the panels. See all of it here.

There's a rivalry between the third and fourth floors of the Carolina Trust Building, a turn-of-last-century structure whose new tenant, Boss Key Productions, had to sign a whole lot of paperwork in order to work in a building on the National Register of Historic Places. Each day, Boss Key employees typically play about two hours of their upcoming multiplayer shooter, LawBreakers, hollering around walnut-paneled dividers and through frosted glass doors that still say things like TAILOR and N.C. MERCHANTS ASS'N.

"Josh was playing as the breacher and he thinks he's going to do some shit," said Tramell Isaac, Boss Key's art director, referring to environment artist Josh Rife, serving an all-purpose role on his floor's squad. Isaac was running around as a Vanguard, a heavy weapons role that packs a huge punch. The mode was Overcharge, which I played last week at a preview event. We'll get into the specifics in a second, but this type of game is set up so that even a team getting its ass kicked can steal victory at the end.

Pyre delivers storytelling, colorful characters and ritualistic sports

Pyre, Supergiant's third title, is a game of lost hope, redemption and spiritual, aura-blasting basketball meets dodgeball.

The game uses the gorgeous painterly aesthetics and compelling storytelling that Supergiant is so known for to propel a quirky sort of gameplay that doesn't quite seem like a fit initially, but grows on you over time.

The game opens as you, an unseen, unidentified player, are discovered in a sort of wasteland used to dispose of society's unwanted. In the opening conversation of the game, you meet three fellow exiles: a young man, a woman with massive curling horns and a ... well, a talking dog.
