The remastered Darksiders is still coming to Wii U

With the Wii U effectively dead — leading some developers to cancel games for that platform in favor of a Nintendo Switch release — owners of Nintendo’s now-last-gen console shouldn’t expect much in the way of new releases. But Wii U owners still have one remaster, Darksiders Warmastered Edition, coming their way.

Publisher THQ Nordic confirmed today that, yes, despite what you might have heard, the Wii U version of Darksiders Warmastered Edition will be here soon: May 23, to be specific. Darksiders Warmastered Edition will cost $19.99 when it’s released on Wii U next month.

Pokémon Go co-op features soon to come, Niantic hints

Pokémon Go sounds like it’s on the upswing. Niantic recently celebrated the game passing 65 million active users, and it’s racked up several awards in recent months. Most exciting for players is the hint that co-op gameplay is coming to the largely single-player experience.

“With spring arriving in the northern hemisphere, players can look forward to all new cooperative social gameplay experiences in Pokémon Go that will give Trainers new and exciting reasons to get back into the sunshine,” the company wrote in a blog post that rounded up many of Pokémon Go’s critical achievements.

Peter Moore recalls the last straw that convinced him to leave Sega

Peter Moore’s time as the head of Sega of America turned sour with the death of the Dreamcast, but it wasn’t until a later meeting with the company’s Japanese brain trust — and a heated argument with Sonic the Hedgehog developer Yuji Naka — that he realized the gaming industry was leaving Sega behind.

In a wide-ranging interview with Glixel, Moore looked back on his career — including nearly two decades in the game industry — as he prepares for a new challenge: the dream job of running his favorite sports team. Liverpool FC announced in late February that Moore will become the club’s CEO this summer; he is currently the chief competition officer at Electronic Arts, heading up the company’s esports efforts.

Persona 5 moves 1.5M copies, days after worldwide release

It seems like years of waiting around for Persona 5 has done some good for the highly acclaimed role-playing game. Atlus announced that the game has shipped 1.5 million copies worldwide, only a few days after its launch in North America and Europe.

It’s important to remember the distinction between shipped and sold, but this is still a milestone for the Persona franchise. Atlus didn’t say how many of these copies went to North America and Europe specifically, but Persona 5 reached 550,000 copies shipped in Japan alone back in October. The game launched there on Sept. 15.

Pokémon Sun and Moon players get a big Mega Stone giveaway surprise

A new mystery gift is available in Pokémon Sun and Moon, and it’s a lot bigger than the usual free download. Starting now, players can grab four different Mega Stones to use in-game.

Players need to enter the password “Intimidate” on the mystery gift screen to collect the Mega Stones. These special battle items are compatible with Beedrill, Audino, Mawile and Medicham. None of these are new Pokémon, and they’re not actually found in Sun or Moon. Instead, players will have to rely upon the Pokémon Bank app on Nintendo 3Ds to port them over from older games.

YouTube’s new monetization policy won’t mean much for gaming channels

YouTube courted some controversy yesterday with the announcement of a revision to its partner program. Content creators will no longer be able to profit of their videos until their channels hit 10,000 total views. Although this threshold may sound steep for YouTubers with small followings, one statistically minded Let’s Player told Polygon that the actual impact will be minimal at best.

Steve “Morjax” Sylvestre runs a gaming-focused YouTube channel, which features playthroughs and explainers on a regular basis. He’s got about 3,000 subscribers; that’s way below the likes of Slowbeef or PewDiePie. From a certain perspective, this may put Morjax into the “small content creators” camp.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is getting a sequel

Polygon dug 2015’s Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, a cyberpunk role-playing game that hit PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Its upcoming sequel, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory, looks to expand upon the original game when it launches early next year.

Publisher Bandai Namco announced on Twitter that it’s localizing Hacker’s Memory for a 2018 release. In this futuristic sci-fi adventure, an unwitting teen hacker leads an expedition between the real and digital worlds. He’ll do that by collecting commanding an arsenal of even more Digimon than were available in the first game.
