Ever Oasis is out this June

Nintendo’s next original fantasy RPG, Ever Oasis, will launch on June 23.

Ever Oasis, developed by Grezzo (The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes), is set in a desert locale. A rotating day/night cycle plays an important part of the gameplay, which goes heavy on the dungeon exploration. There’s even village-building involved, as the hero — a girl or boy named Tethu — helps to reconstruct their town.

Report: Microsoft to offer digital refunds in Xbox and Windows stores

Microsoft is apparently planning to introduce refunds for digital content purchased from the Xbox Games Store and Windows Store, bringing those storefronts in line with popular digital retailers for PC games.

The refund feature is included in the latest alpha release for the Xbox One Insider program, according to a photo posted today on the Xbox One subreddit. Refunds apply only for full games and paid apps, not downloadable content or season passes. These “self-service refunds” are designed to “provide a quick, simple way of returning a digital product,” according to Microsoft. Here’s the full policy:

The annual Xbox Spring Sale is underway, offering steep discounts on some big names for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. The sale is running until April 17, next Tuesday.

The full list is here, but only the discounted percentage is listed, not the whole dollar retail price. Some deals are for Xbox Live Gold members only, and in other cases they will save more than the general public. Some games have been past selections in the Games With Gold lineup (Sleeping Dogs and Thief, repeatedly) and some of the Electronic Arts titles are available, or will be, through the EA Access library of games.

Quake’s latest Champion is ‘woke AF,’ according to Bethesda

Bethesda announced a new playable character for its free-to-play arena shooter, Quake Champions. Clutch is an AI-controlled robotic killing machine. Unfortunately, the publisher has elected to refer to the robot as “woke AF,” evoking the slang term used to refer to the realization of racial and social prejudices in the world around you.

Fire Emblem Heroes’ big new update changes the game up for the better

Nintendo has been pumping up Fire Emblem Heroes’ big April update for several weeks now. Today, it’s actually available in the game, and it vastly improves on what was already an excellent mobile experience.

Most notable in Fire Emblem Heroes version 1.2.0 is the increased stamina cap, allowing us to play for almost twice as long as before. Now players have a total of 99 stamina points they can use to play maps, run through the training tower and die repeatedly against the rotating lineup of special bosses. (Is that just us? That’s not just us, right?) That means there’s more time to actually play the game and not just wait for the stamina counter to refresh for hours on end.

Adult Swim and Owlchemy Labs’ Rick and Morty VR game, Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, finally has a release date and it’s pretty damn perfect: April 20.

The game, which has toured different conventions in the past year including San Diego Comic-Con, allows people to take on the role of one of Rick’s clones and experience the troubles that come along with it. Players will have to complete puzzles and missions using VR technology in order to progress through the game and explore new aspects of the show that haven’t aired yet.

Xbox Scorpio’s beefy dev kit revealed

Following last week’s unveiling of the Xbox Scorpio’s guts to Digital Foundry, Microsoft has revealed the console’s developer kit to Gamasutra. The hardware specifications of the Scorpio dev kit are, as expected, slightly better than those of the system itself, but Microsoft told Gamasutra that it made a major effort to design the dev kit in a way that would make developers’ lives easier.

Last week, we learned the basic specs for Scorpio as it will be released this holiday season: an eight-core CPU at 2.3 GHz, a GPU with 40 Radeon compute units at 1172 MHz, 12 GB of GDDR5 RAM with a bandwidth of 326 GB/s — all of which will meet Microsoft’s stated performance target of 6 teraflops of computing power. Gamasutra reports that Microsoft bumped up the specs a bit for Scorpio’s dev kit: Its GPU features 44 compute units to deliver 6.6 teraflops of performance, and its RAM is doubled to 24 GB. It also contains a 1 TB SSD alongside the standard 1 TB hard drive.

Two charged after calling SWAT team that shot an online rival

Two people have been charged in relation to a prank phone call that led to one man being shot twice, once in the face, by tactical police officers in Howard County, Maryland. The “swatting” was allegedly orchestrated because of a disagreement over an online game.

The Independent reports that Robert McDaid, a 21-year old from Coventry, England is the first British citizen to be charged in the UK for swatting. His alleged accomplice, American Zachary Lee, was also indicted last week according to the Baltimore Sun.

Sega’s ‘extreme’ HD remake of Yakuza comes to PS4 in August

Yakuza Kiwami, Sega’s remake of 2005’s Yakuza, is coming to PlayStation 4 on Aug. 29, the publisher announced today. The “rebuilt from the ground up” version of the PlayStation 2 original will retail for $29.99.

The so-called extreme HD remake will feature “completely recreated graphics,” according to Sega, and re-recorded audio from the game’s original Japanese voice actors. In terms of new content, Sega promises “added distractions” — including the “Majima Everywhere” system, in which Goro Majima will regularly surprise and challenge players to combat — and about 30 minutes of new cutscenes.
