Nintendo kicks off May with a slate of games from well-known franchises launching on the Switch eShop, including a famous one of its own. Perhaps the most interesting new game on the release schedule this week, however, has a much more obscure name attached to it — but a backstory that involves a recent, major tragedy abroad.

Death Road to Canada has found a small but loving fanbase since it launched on Steam in 2016. Rocketcat Games’ roguelike tasks players with running over zombies with their car as they race through the apocalypse. Every level is procedurally generated, and every character is pixelated cuteness, including the zombies.

One of the most popular event modes in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds — War Mode — is headed back to the game this weekend.

This time, War Mode, which will be called Desert Knights, will take place on Miramar. It will be the first time PUBG’s second map will host the team deathmatch-style game mode. Also changing this time around are the squad sizes. While the last version of War Mode featured three, 10-person squads duking it out, Desert Knights will feature 10 five-person squads competing for victory.

Personal item trading for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Windows PC has been temporarily halted due to third-party item-selling sites, developer PUBG Corp. announced today.

“We’ve seen a few cases of players using the personal trade function to sell items using third party sites,” PUBG Corp. said in a statement. “This is essentially an abuse of the system. To prevent this, we’re temporarily turning off personal trades while we search for a better solution. Once we figure out a way to prevent abuse, the restriction will be lifted.”

Beyond Good & Evil 2’s introduction at E3 2017 promised a galactic experience of extraordinary scale, and in showing some of the first gameplay footage of the game today, its developers provided a brief look at the way that players will be able to travel and fight in space.

The gameplay, which totaled about 45 seconds of footage, came from a very early build of Beyond Good & Evil 2 — a watermark on the clip described it as a “pre-alpha” version of the game. And the developers from Ubisoft Montpellier who debuted the footage on a livestream, including creative director Michel Ancel, repeatedly emphasized that this is very much a work in progress.

Four landmark video games spanning 50 years of history have been inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame: Final Fantasy 7, John Madden Football, the first Tomb Raider and Spacewar!.

The Strong museum in Rochester, New York, announced the honorees this morning. The World Video Game Hall of Fame was established in 2015. Today’s inductees join 15 others enshrined over the past four years.

Battlerite, the free-to-play MOBA that launched on Windows PC in November and is coming to Xbox One this year, will be offering a battle royale mode, though with features more tailored to the MOBA genre. The mode is coming this summer, developer Stunlock Studios announced today.

In Battlerite Royale, 20 players will be sent onto an island map that is 30 times larger than Battlerite’s standard arena mode map. Battlerite Royale can be played in a free-for-all setup or pairs of two. The camera view is the standard top-down perspective as in arena mode.

God of War has won critical acclaim from pretty much everyone, and now it is a massive commercial success as well. Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment sold more than 3.1 million units of the franchise revival worldwide within its first three days of release, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive yet, the company announced today.

Sony launched God of War on Friday, April 20, and the sales figures the company gave today are for the game’s opening weekend, April 20-22.

Rex Dickson, the creative director of the Madden NFL series for EA Sports since 2012, has left the franchise and the company. Dickson made the announcement yesterday evening via Twitter.
